The Zhonghua Yunlong Limited Phosphogypsum Residue Storage Project in Yize Village

Located in Laoheilonggou, Yize Village, Gongshan Town, Xundian Hui and Yi Autonomous County in the northern part of Kunming, Yunnan Province, the first phase of the Zhonghua Yunlong Limited Phosphogypsum Residue Storage Project in Yize Village is a third-class tailings pond with an effective capacity of 8,342,700 m³, satisfying the storage needs for 10 years of production. The slurry pipeline and the return water pipeline are approximately 20 km each.

For the anti-seepage measures at the bottom of the residue storage, the layers are arranged from bottom to top as follows: foundation leveling and proper compaction, compacted clay, geogrid, 4800g/m² GCL bentonite waterproof blanket, 6.3mm three-dimensional composite drainage network, 1.5mm HDPE single-roughened surface anti-seepage membrane, and 600g/m² geotextile. For the anti-seepage measures on the slope of the residue storage, the layers are arranged from bottom to top as follows: foundation leveling, 4800g/m² GCL bentonite waterproof blanket, 1.5mm HDPE single-roughened surface anti-seepage membrane, and 600g/m² geotextile used locally.

After comprehensive anti-seepage treatment of the residue storage, it meets the anti-seepage requirements for the disposal site of the second-class general industrial solid waste, preventing the pollution of leachate to the surrounding environment and ensuring the safe and effective disposal of tailings solid waste, without causing secondary pollution to the surrounding environment.

The capacity of this phosphogypsum tailings pond is approximately 20 million m³. Our company provided HDPE geomembrane, geotextile, bentonite waterproof blanket, and other products, and was responsible for the construction, ensuring the safe and effective disposal of tailings waste.

The project is located in a valley, with a long strip terrain and steep slopes on both sides. The design structure of the anti-seepage system for the bottom and slope of the reservoir from bottom to top is as follows:

  1. Bentonite Waterproof Blanket: It effectively prevents the harm caused by uneven settlement to the HDPE geomembrane, while playing an auxiliary role in anti-seepage and isolation.

  2. Textured HDPE Geomembrane: It overcomes the problems brought by adverse geological conditions and meets the engineering requirements. Based on its excellent mechanical properties, good elongation, and chemical stability, it improves slip resistance and construction quality.

  3. Long-fiber spunbonded needle-punched geotextile: It is permeable, preventing the membrane from being damaged by friction caused by sharp objects or sudden uneven loads.

The performance of the products and the construction quality have well met the actual usage requirements of the project.
